Cross-platformLÖVE packageRequires a compatible LÖVE 11.x installation

An official package confirms that the project publishes a file for that target. It does not guarantee support for every operating-system version, graphics driver, controller or optional mod.

Base Gen1Recomp Requirements

  • the correct build for the device;
  • a compatible user-supplied Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver or Crystal ROM (all three Gen 2 games remain Phase 1, and Crystal is labelled Beta);
  • storage for the application, generated game data, saves and optional mods;
  • graphics and system support required by LÖVE2D and the selected package.

Online play, save sync, the mod index and update checks require network access. The older in-game Link menu remains the local-network trade and battle path.

The project does not currently publish a universal minimum CPU, GPU or RAM specification.

On Windows, macOS and Linux AppImage, an empty portable.txt beside the application switches saves, options and the generated cache to the application folder. Flatpak ignores portable.txt, and portable mode does not apply to Android or iOS. Desktop users can launch a specific game (including Crystal), select a save slot or start an installed custom cart directly with --game, --slot and --cart. A linked device syncs before a direct launch by default; --no-sync skips that step, while --update checks for a release before booting.

Android and iOS accept equivalent launch choices through the gen1recomp++://launch URL scheme. On iPhone and iPad, long-press an imported game cartridge or use the action on a custom-cart row to create a Home Screen entry; iOS opens a configuration profile for approval and uses the selected game or cart artwork.

Additional VoxelMod Requirements

The 3D mod needs a compatible Gen1Recomp version, shader support, depth-canvas support and enough graphics performance for the selected draw distance and effects. A device may run base Gen1Recomp while struggling with the optional 3D rendering.

If performance is slow, begin with a shorter draw distance and fewer visual effects. The 3D setup guide provides suitable first-launch settings.

Console, Handheld and Mobile Limits

The Nintendo Switch package requires a console that can already run Switch homebrew. Extract the ZIP at the microSD root and launch Gen1Recomp through title override; applet mode is not supported. The project documents successful testing on OLED and V1 / Erista hardware, while other setups may need further testing. Follow the complete Nintendo Switch setup guide.

The Xbox download is specifically labelled as a UWP package for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles in Developer Mode. It cannot be installed in retail mode; use Xbox Device Portal to install the package and its included x64 dependency.

The named RG34XXSP package should not be generalized to other Anbernic devices or firmware. Version 0.2.60 also provides a separate SBC / PortMaster package for compatible ARM Linux handhelds and single-board computers; the filename alone does not confirm every device or firmware. Steam Deck and other Linux handhelds can use the appropriate Linux build, while Android results can vary widely by device and GPU.

Use the official downloads for the published packages and Known Issues for current platform reports.
