What DramaticShapeVoxelMod Changes
DramaticShapeVoxelMod is an optional graphics and rendering mod for Gen1Recomp. It turns the flat tile-based overworld into a layered 3D scene while keeping many characters as 2D sprites inside that environment.
VoxelMod is not a standalone game and does not replace Gen1Recomp. The base project supplies the game engine, ROM import and mod manager; VoxelMod uses that system to change presentation.
Main Visual Features
- extruded map geometry and adjustable camera pitch;
- depth-based occlusion and cast shadows;
- optional voxel grid, world curvature and tilt-shift blur;
- day and night presentation;
- battles displayed over the map;
- an optional back-sprite view for 3D battles;
- adjustable water waves and reflections in VoxelMod 1.4.0.
The environment gains depth, but “everything becomes a voxel model” is not accurate. Sprites and interface elements can remain two-dimensional.
What the Mod Does Not Intend to Change
The maintainer describes movement, collision, triggers, scripts and saved actor positions as unchanged. This is why “graphics mod” or “presentation mod” is more accurate than calling VoxelMod a separate remake.

Requirements and Limitations
VoxelMod requires a compatible Gen1Recomp version plus shader and depth-canvas support. Performance can vary with the device, graphics driver, screen resolution, draw distance, enabled effects and other installed mods.
The project remains experimental. Review Platforms and Requirements before using it on Android or a handheld, and check Known Issues if rendering or performance problems appear.
Download and Setup
The official VoxelMod ZIP is available on the Download page. Keep the ZIP compressed when importing it through Gen1Recomp's mod manager. The Red, Blue and Yellow 3D guide covers the complete setup.
