The official README also lists VOID FILL in the Options menu. COLORS, TILT, ZOOM, GBC FX and VOID FILL are saved in options.lua, so your selected values persist between launches.

How to change the controls

  1. Open Gen1Recomp and start an imported game.
  2. Open Options.
  3. Choose Controls.
  4. Select the action you want to change.
  5. Press the replacement key or controller button and confirm the new mapping.

Only the main game actions listed in the first table are described by the official README as rebindable. It does not say that the global hotkeys can be reassigned, so do not assume F1, F2 or F10 can be changed through the same screen.

Keyboard tips

  • Use the arrow keys or WASD for movement, whichever feels more natural.
  • Z and X provide a compact two-button layout similar to many desktop emulators, while Enter, Space and Backspace provide alternatives.
  • If a function key controls brightness, volume or another laptop feature, you may need to hold your keyboard’s Fn key with F1, F2 or F10. This depends on the keyboard, not Gen1Recomp.
  • The zoom keys are the minus and equals keys. You can also use the mouse wheel while exploring the overworld.

Controller support

Controllers are supported without a separate setup step according to the project README. Movement uses the D-pad or left stick; the face buttons map to A and B; and Start plus Back or Select handle the remaining Game Boy buttons.

If your controller layout feels wrong, open Options → Controls and rebind the actions. Button labels can differ between Xbox-style, PlayStation-style and Nintendo-style controllers, so follow the physical button detected by Gen1Recomp rather than relying only on its printed letter.

Keys for mods and 3D play

Press F10 to open the Gen1Recomp mod manager. This is where desktop users can import and manage mods such as DramaticShapeVoxelMod. After installing the mod, follow the Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow 3D setup guide for its separate visual options.

The number-key shortcuts in this page are the base Gen1Recomp hotkeys documented in its README. A mod may add its own controls, so check the mod’s documentation before treating additional shortcuts as built-in Gen1Recomp keys.
