Supported Pokemon Games and ROM Versions
Gen1Recomp v0.2.60 accepts six Pokemon games:
| Game | Required input | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon Red | Canonical 1 MiB US ROM matching the published SHA-1 | Supported |
| Pokemon Blue | Canonical 1 MiB US ROM matching the published SHA-1 | Supported |
| Pokemon Yellow | Canonical 1 MiB US ROM matching the published SHA-1 | Supported |
| Pokemon Gold | Canonical 2 MiB US ROM matching the published SHA-1 | Gen 2 Phase 1; engine under construction |
| Pokemon Silver | Canonical 2 MiB US ROM matching the published SHA-1 | Gen 2 Phase 1; import and launcher support added in v0.2.11 |
| Pokemon Crystal | Canonical 2 MiB US ROM, revision 1.0 or 1.1, matching a published SHA-1 | Gen 2 Phase 1; launcher labels it Crystal (Beta) |
The importer checks the file itself, not its filename. Renaming a different revision or region does not make it compatible.
Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal Phase 1 Support
Gen1Recomp 0.2.60 imports Gold, Silver and Crystal beside Red, Blue and Yellow and gives each game its own launcher entry and save data. Gold has received extensive work across its overworld, battles, menus, Pokédex, events, items, trades, saves, input and display behavior. Silver joined the launcher in v0.2.11. Crystal joined in v0.2.21 and has its own engine path while remaining part of the same developing Gen 2 Phase 1 work.
The project does not present Gold, Silver or Crystal as complete. Its current README labels all three games Gen 2 Phase 1 (import + launcher) and says the Gen 2 engine is still under construction. Crystal is shown as Crystal (Beta) in the launcher because it is the newest implementation. The v0.2 releases fixed many Gen 2 progression and fidelity problems, but some original behavior, events and mod features can still be incomplete.
Version 0.2.32 added general cartridge-save import and export for Gold, Silver and Crystal. Later releases added Gen 2 battle-background and battle-size options and continued correcting events, trades, menus, audio, animations, movement and save conversion. Versions 0.2.41–0.2.57 add further fixes for Gen 2 localization, battles, menus, transitions, field moves, the Bug-Catching Contest, daycare behavior, Crystal's tile-attribute-aware grass rendering, the Gold/Silver/Crystal intro and HUD, Crystal Transform experience handling and a Pokégear progression softlock. Version 0.2.58 restores the missing Gen 2 battle presentation options and corrects Crystal Battle Tower level selection, rewards and text alignment. Version 0.2.59 restores screen tilt for Gen 2 with the gb_anim skin. Version 0.2.60 corrects GSC save-import world-event flags and Pokémon sprite colours in menus, alongside further Gen 2 Surf and field-behavior fixes. These fixes do not change the Phase 1 status. The current Switch transfer document still marks Gen 2 raw .sav transfer unsupported on Switch.

Crystal 1.1 support was added in v0.2.22. A different region or revision is not accepted merely because its filename says Pokemon Crystal.
Unsupported or Unconfirmed Inputs
Current documentation does not confirm support for:
- non-US releases or revisions not explicitly listed above;
- translated or otherwise modified ROMs;
- headered or altered dumps;
- prototypes and beta versions;
- arbitrary Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow ROM hacks;
- other Pokemon games not listed by the current README.
Why a ROM Is Required
Gen1Recomp supplies a newly written engine, not the original Pokemon game data. During import it verifies a compatible user-supplied ROM and creates the private data needed by the recreation. This website does not provide ROM downloads or generated caches.
VoxelMod remains documented here for Red, Blue and Yellow. The archived VoxelMod is not confirmed for Gold, Silver or Crystal.
