Gen1Recomp remains active and can release updates quickly. The original VoxelMod project is no longer available; its last known version is retained as a historical record.

What Changed from v0.1.83 to v0.2.15

Gen1Recomp 0.2.15 completed the earlier release line covered by this website. Across v0.1.84–v0.1.99, the launcher and mod platform gained stronger profile, dependency, permission and required-import handling; Gold save-editor support; save-slot recovery; generation-aware field moves; patch notes; mobile update transport; an optional widescreen battle layout; and companion-display support.

Version 0.2.0 then introduced touch skins and the desktop Skin Studio. It can import native Gen1Recomp skins, compatible RetroArch overlays and Delta .deltaskin files; edit bezels, controls, hitboxes, pages and the game viewport; preview presses; and export installable skins. Later updates added Safe Mode, issue reporting, Android launcher integration, cross-device save-sync fixes, shareable mod lists and Pokemon Silver.

Pokemon Crystal and Custom Carts

Crystal is the sixth accepted game. Gen1Recomp accepts the canonical US 1.0 and 1.1 ROMs, imports Crystal beside the other games and gives it separate cache and save data. The launcher deliberately shows Crystal (Beta). Gold, Silver and Crystal remain Gen 2 Phase 1; the Gen 2 engine is still under construction.

Custom carts are named, version-pinned mod sets with their own appearance, save slots and export file. The launcher can browse carts through the community index and install a cart's pinned required mods only when their recorded hashes match.

Online Play and Current Launcher Tools

The Online launcher tab added in v0.2.33 can host or join battles, show live matches to spectators, run tournaments and trade Pokemon between save files. Rooms identify their game, Gen1Recomp version and ruleset; custom-cart rooms require the same sealed cart on both sides. Versions 0.2.34–0.2.36, 0.2.40 and 0.2.44 contain follow-up Online and cross-device connection fixes. The in-game Link menu remains the separate LAN option.

Version 0.2.37 added Update all for indexed mods, game and generation filters, touch-screen SAVE/LOAD/SPEED/COLOR/TILT/ZOOM keys, rebindable controller speed controls, and save-editor actions for sorting/filling items and editing coins. Direct-game shortcuts can sync first, skip sync with --no-sync, or check for an update with --update.

Version 0.2.41 extends direct launch to installed custom carts with --cart. Android and iOS can receive the same game, cart, slot, launcher, sync and update settings through a gen1recomp++://launch URL, and iOS can create Home Screen entries for imported games and custom carts. The current Update all action includes indexed installed carts before it updates mods.

Gen1Recomp++ is the expanded Gen1Recomp project, now covering Red, Blue and Yellow plus developing Gold, Silver and Crystal support. It uses the same repository, downloads and Lua/LÖVE2D engine. Release tags and most package filenames continue to use Gen1Recomp, and the ++ does not mean C++.

VoxelMod 1.8.2 is the last known original release. The original repository and maintainer channels are unavailable, so it should be treated as archived and unsupported. Its preserved downloads and maintained alternatives are listed on the dedicated VoxelMod page below.

Third-person mode, persistent battle-camera control, touch/controller/keyboard zoom, first-person mode, PC VR support and the earlier graphics fixes remain included.

Version Compatibility

The archived VoxelMod manifest declared Gen1Recomp compatibility with development builds and releases from 0.1.37 up to, but not including, 2.0.0. That old range does not guarantee compatibility with Gen1Recomp 0.2.60, every device or every other mod.

VoxelMod 1.8.2 lists ds_fp_ceiling as a conflict in its manifest. Other combinations can still cause problems, so test additional mods one at a time.
